Biography

Ashis Paul was born in 1974 in Calcutta in a family with strong musical background. Already at a young age he was accepted as a child prodigy as a Tabla player. His initial training started at a very tender age under the guidance of his father Shri Tapan Paul. later on he took his lessons from Pandit Samir Chatterjee and Pandit Debnath Chakraborty respectively. Now he is learning under the able guidance of the illustrious tabla maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee of Farukhhabad Gharana.

He is a prominent disciple of Pandit Anindo Chatterjee and is credited with accompanying some of the top ranking musicians of our country. He is a regular performer of all India Radio. The hall mark of Ashis's  accompaniment is the richness of the 'bols' of the Farukhhabad style combined with virtuosity and sensitivity to the music itself. He is being hailed by the music lovers as one of the most sensitive Tabla accompanist of his generation. He specializes not only in accompaniment and solo performance but also in fusing with rhythmic patterns from all over the world.
